Laser Welding Solution

Olympus Technologies has launched the UK’s first Universal Robot cobot laser welding solution. Based on our proven MIG and TIG cobot software, the solution offers faster high-quality robot welding than MIG or TIG is able to offer.

Manual laser welding must take place within a laser cabin, with the welder wearing full PPE to protect against the laser beam. Whilst Robot laser welding also has the requirement for a protective cabin, it is possible to reduce the footprint from the typical size of a manual laser welding cabin. Robot laser welding also offers additional safety because nobody is present in the cell while the laser is emitted.

The operator places the parts for welding in a fixture, and then leaves the cabin. The robot process is started from outside the cabin, and the process will not start until the cabin door is securely interlocked. Options are also available for external loading via a turntable.
